The Global Sumud Flotilla reported its "first encounter" with Israeli Navy vessels, which circled the fleet’s "lead boat for about six minutes" while remotely disabling its communication systems.

The Alma’s captain was forced to make “a strong evasive manoeuvre” to “avoid frontal collision”, the GSF said in a statement.

The military vessels then carried out  similar manoeuvres around the Sirius boat, "for a longer period before departing," the statement said, adding that “there were reports of other military vessels throughout the night."

The crew remains prepared for further encounters in the coming hours, the GSF said.

The Global Sumud Flotilla announced that its fleet of dozens of ships has now entered the “high-risk zone”, 150 nautical miles (278km) from Gaza, where previous flotillas were attacked or stopped by Israeli forces.

As the boats approach Gaza, the Sumud Flotilla has made live video available to help ensure the safety of those on board.

The Israeli regime has vowed to stop the Gaza-bound flotilla, claiming the humanitarian volunteers are attempting to “breach a lawful naval blockade”.
