At Peace and Trust Conference in Ashgabat:

“If the world truly seeks peace, it must recognize that no country, not even major powers, should be allowed to act above international norms,” said Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, at the “Peace and Trust” Conference in Ashgabat.

Driving the news:

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Ashgabat to participate in the International Conference on Peace and Trust, hosted by Turkmenistan, where he delivered a speech underscoring Iran’s commitment to fostering global peace, trust, and international cooperation.

Why it matters:

Iran and other independent countries believe that to reach a lasting peace and fairness, the world must shift from submission to unilateralism of arrogant powers to a world directed by multilateralism.

What he's saying:

Masoud Pezeshkian: "When an actor is effectively exempted from international oversight and accountability, the roots of injustice grow deeper, and the foundations of lasting peace are eroded."

"It is precisely this injustice and exceptionalism that emboldened the Israeli regime last June to commit aggression against the Islamic Republic, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds of my innocent compatriots."

"This action not only faced no international punishment, but was met with full political and military support from powers that claim to defend human rights and global peace. As long as such special privileges exist for the Israeli regime, it is impossible to speak of peace and a just order."

"In the current situation, it is the responsibility of all countries to demonstrate, through regional initiatives, active participation in international organizations, and ethical, multilateral diplomacy, that the world does not speak solely with the voice of great powers."
