Why it matters:
Laboratory equipment forms the backbone of technology development, playing a critical role in universities, research centers, and industries — from scientific research and R&D to quality control, standardization, and industrial, biological, and environmental safety.
Catch up quick:
The Iran-Made Exhibition, now in its 13th year, brought together senior government officials and more than 270 knowledge-based companies to present the latest achievements and market development policies in laboratory and advanced testing equipment.
Driving the news:
The exhibition has evolved into one of Iran’s strategic engines for science, technology, and industrial growth, with rising product quality, expanded targeted subsidies, and a growing export outlook.
What he is saying:
Abdul-Hossein Bahrami, head of the Steering Center for Knowledge-Based Economy Headquarters at the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, and head of Iran-Made Exhibition, said,
“In this edition, more than 270 knowledge-based and technology companies presented around 9,000 models of products and auxiliary equipment, and unlike many similar events, participation did not decline. Instead, the quality level of companies and products improved compared to the previous period.”
He added, “Increasing purchase subsidies for higher-technology products, aimed at reducing purchase risk and strengthening the resilience of knowledge-based companies, was among the hallmark policies of this edition.”
Key points:
- Purchase subsidies were set at 45% for first-tier products, 30% for second-tier, and 10% for third-tier.
- Over 12 editions, the exhibition has facilitated about 2.5 “hemats” in sales for manufacturers.
- The process has created direct employment for more than 7,000 specialists.
- It has directly prevented over $200 million in foreign currency outflow and indirectly up to $500 million.
The big picture:
Iran’s entry into the limited group of countries capable of producing advanced laboratory equipment marks a major step toward independence across the technology development cycle and strengthens national scientific and industrial sovereignty.
Between the lines:
By prioritizing quality improvement, standardization, industrial design and export market development, policymakers are shifting Iran-Made from a domestic showcase into a regional technology platform.
What to watch:
Organizers aim to unveil at least 10 new high-tech laboratory products at next year’s exhibition, focusing on highly advanced measurement and analysis equipment.
