Why It Matters:
The holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy Progeny) said, "Fatima is from me, and I am from her; whoever loves her loves me, he who hurts her hurts me."
The big picture:
After opening the event with prayers and Qur’an recitations, Islamic poets and singers took to the stage to perform in praise of the Prophet’s daughter. A quiz on the life of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was also organized for children. Questions included the year of Imam Khomeini’s demise , the year he returned to Iran from exile, and who initiated International Unity Week, among others. Lectures by both female and male Islamic scholars were also held, focusing on the life of Sayyeda Fatima (AS) and the lessons to be drawn from her steadfast resistance against tyranny and oppression.
What he's saying:
The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, was the special guest speaker and concluded the event with a closing remark. Sheikh Zakzaky spoke about the virtues of Lady Fatima (as), such as piety, generosity, patience and her struggles against tyranny. He finally urged African nations to stand up against the ongoing Israeli crime against humanity, especially in Palestine and Lebanon. He said everyone will be questioned by God on the role they played to help the oppressed people of Palestine.
