Why it matters:
Maduro’s remarks come after Trump's repeated direct threats against Venezuelan territorial integrity and Maduro himself, declaring that possible ground attacks could occur “very soon.”
The big picture:
The United States has carried out direct attacks on Venezuelan ships in the open waters of the Caribbean, killing more than 80 civilians, without providing any evidence and acting solely on claims of combating drug trafficking. In its latest move, U.S. forces surrounded and seized a Venezuelan oil tanker, an action that global communities have strongly condemned as “maritime piracy.”
What he's saying:
Speaking at the ceremony marking the 166th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Inés, Maduro stressed that «No more Vietnam. No more Somalia. No more Iraq. No more Afghanistan. No more Libya.»
He added: “From Venezuela, we demand an end to regime-change policies, coups, and military interventions around the world.”
