Tehran (IP) - The head of Iran's International University Sports Federation‎ said that the Iranian students have had significant growth in either team or individual sports, and they are among the best in the world.

Iran PressIran news: Bahram Qadimi in an interview with Iran Press on Sunday said that Iran's university sports including futsal, volleyball, taekwondo, karate, as well as free and Greece-Romance wrestling have always been among the world and Asia's top three teams both in male and female parts.

Qadimi added that Iranian university sports have also won medals in archery, shooting, and athletics and have made good progress in such other fields as golf and tennis.

He added that Iranian student sports teams experienced their last international presence in the world university competitions held in 2019, which were accompanied by various medals.

But for the new year's competitions, we are waiting for permission from the National Taskforce for Combatting Coronavirus to prepare the ground for sending student teams in different fields to the inter-university games of the world, the official told Iran Press.

"Of course, the world inter-university competitions are currently being held in the form of webinars in the individual skills section with the participation of students from 133 prestigious universities in the world, including Iranian athletes," he noted.

The head of Iran's International University Sports Federation concluded in cases the permission for holding the university sports competitions is issued, the competitions will be held in the coming months of May or October.
