Iran Press/ Europe: Speaking ih the 48th session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which was held virtually, Kazem Gharibabadi said: "Protecting multilateralism as a value for industrialization is a necessity and we have a long way to go to achieve sustainable development and create a more prosperous and healthier world for the people."
Gharibabadi said: "We continue to see the use of unilateral sanctions against countries which is in clear contradiction with the aims and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, international human rights, as well as the principles of multilateralism and the norms of diplomacy and international relations."
Pointing to the coronavirus pandemic, he warned against the serious consequences of the coronavirus for many developing countries and said that the COVID-19 disease profoundly affects the ability of these countries to cope with it and invest in sustainable development.
"Responding to the coronavirus requires global cooperation and solidarity," Gharibabadi added.
He continued: "UNIDO should step up its efforts to work with other United Nations agencies to ensure capacity and opportunities are provided as well as increasing access to the equipment needed for countries in need, as well as the production and fair distribution of vaccines."
