Iran Press/ Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of the first meeting on the progress of the COVID-19 vaccine in Iran, Hamelmann said that no country in the world can say that we have the vaccine ready in a couple of weeks, so we need to continue observing health protocols like wearing masks.
"There are a number of research institutions and knowledge-based companies which are working on vaccine development in Iran and some of them have completed pre-clinical phase, and some positive results have been seen," he stated.
"All clinical trials can be done with resources in the country, so Iran will not be dependent on international sides since the used substances for such vaccine can be produced in the country," WHO representative noted.
He highlighted that Iran is a country which has a long tradition in research in medicine and vaccine.
"When it comes to the international vaccine, if the first one comes from somewhere except Iran, there are mechanisms that WHO and other organizations are supporting the government of Islamic Republic of Iran to get those vaccines," Hamelmann concluded.
