Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Health Minister Saeed Namaki said four Iranian companies have entered the third phase of COVID-19 vaccine production, which is human trials.

Iran Press/Iran news: Delivering a speech through videoconference on the first meeting on the progress of COVID-19 vaccine development, Namaki said that eight Iranian companies are among the twelve companies in the world which are in advanced stages of vaccine production.

Scientific and technological deputy of the health ministry, knowledge-based companies such as Barakat Foundation, Razi, and Pasteur institutes have been working on a vaccine since the initial days of the coronavirus outbreak, he said, expressing hope that Iran will be one of the pioneer producers in the region.

Namaki highlighted that the world is facing the third wave of coronavirus outbreak, and Iran tries to control the epidemic by having more than 100,000 tests daily.

Iran, besides all countries in the world, started working on a COVID-19 vaccine and took three main steps in this regard. First, registered in COVAX (COVAX aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world) and put Iran in the list of countries who want to benefit from the vaccine. Second, started a common project with volunteer countries to work on a vaccine. Third, knowledge-based companies took effective steps in producing a vaccine.

Namaki expressed hope that WHO supports Iran which faces severe sanctions so that Iran can be one of the producers in the region.
