Iran's Khaji, Pedersen consult on latest developments in Syria

Tehran (IP): The senior assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji, and UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen discussed the latest developments in Syria.

Iran PressIran News: Ali Asghar Khaji on Monday in a telephone conversation with Geir O. Pedersen stressed the importance of resolving the issue of refugees and asylum seekers as a humanitarian issue between the Syrian parties, as well as its positive consequences in paving the ground for the political solution of the Syrian crisis.

The UN Special Envoy for Syria also briefed the Iranian side about the results of his recent talks in several countries in the region.

Pedersen and Khaji reviewed the latest developments regarding the forthcoming meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, expressing hope that a fourth-round would be held in the near future.

The conference on Syrian refugees to be held in Damascus this month was another topic discussed by the two sides.

Khaji also called for the active participation of the international community in the conference.

The crisis in Syria began in 2011 with a massive offensive by terrorist groups backed by Saudi Arabia, the United States and their allies to shift the regional equation in favor of the Israel regime.
