Mini-tsunami hits Turkey’s coast after a huge earthquake battered Turkey and Greece.

Iran PressAsia: The quake caused a mini-tsunami that sent debris from buildings racing down Turkish streets near Izmir where at least six buildings were flattened. The tsunami has injured at least four people when it hit the Greek island of Samos, Euro Weekly News reported.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said Friday’s earthquake was centred in the Aegean at a depth of 10.3 miles.

Turkey’s interior minister Suleyman Soylu said six buildings had collapsed in two parts of Izmir, while Mayor Tunc Soyer said nearly 20 buildings had collapsed in the province.

The powerful 7.0 magnitude tremor struck about 17km (11 miles) off the coast of western Izmir province and was felt as far away as Athens and Istanbul, the US Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning was issued, with residents of the Samos area told to stay away from the coast.

‘The walls of some houses have crumbled and several buildings are damaged,’ the island’s deputy mayor Michalis Mitsios told broadcaster ERT.
