Maria Zakharova Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman expressed hope that the United States will act wisely regarding the end of Iran's arms embargoes on October 18.

Iran PressEurope: Responding to a question on the lifting of arms embargo from Iran, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said on Thursday that Russia insists on the full implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Zakharova, the United States had acted deceptively in the Security Council over the lifting of Iran's arms embargo.

Earlier this month, Sergey Lavrov speaking at a joint press conference in Moscow following talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, categorically rejected US efforts to introduce a 'permanent' arms embargo against Tehran.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says the 10-year oppressive embargo will be lifted on Sunday, October 18th, and the country can buy and sell weapons.

The embargo is set to be expired as part of the terms under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal signed between Iran and other countries in Vienna in 2015.

Earlier this year, the US presented the United Nations Security Council with a draft resolution seeking to extend the arms embargo. Washington made a move even as it had quit the JCPOA in 2018.

The US draft was met with an almost across-the-board opposition at the Security Council, where only the Dominican Republic voted in favor.
