Tehran (IP) - Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says the 10-year oppressive embargo will be lifted on Sunday, October 18th, and the country can buy and sell weapons.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani congratulated the Iranian nation on lifting the oppressive arms embargo on October 18th.

With the people’s resistance and the Iranian diplomats’ efforts, he said, the 10-year oppressive embargo will be lifted despite the US’ 4-year efforts.

The embargo is set to be expired as part of the terms under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal signed between Iran and other countries in Vienna in 2015.

Earlier this year, the US presented the United Nations Security Council with a draft resolution seeking to extend the arms embargo. Washington made the move even as it had quit the JCPOA in 2018.

The US draft was met with an almost across-the-board opposition at the Security Council, where only the Dominican Republic voted in favor.

In-person contacts must turn into digital ones

The president said due to the outbreak of the coronavirus the in-person contacts must turn into digital ones.

He reported the inauguration of a system where the education documents of the graduates are stored to be accessed by the public in the necessary times.

Rouhani also reported a similar integrative trade system which makes it possible to track and monitor the process of the trade from the time an order is registered to the store where the item is sold, preventing hoard.

All departments should be under the supervision of the system, including all actions of the central bank, he added.

Recently, Iran's president has said that the traditional economy is changing to the digital economy, and the digital economy is considered as a large and important area for the country.
