Golestan Province (IP) - 50 housing units damaged and 34 people injured after a 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Iran's northern province of Golestan.

Iran Press/Iran news: The earthquake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the region of Ramyan in the east of Golestan province at a depth of 9 km at 02:44:24 am on Monday (September 07, 2020).

This earthquake was felt in Gorgan, the capital of Golestan province, 75 km from Ramyan and even the western cities of the province and the cities near the Caspian Sea coast. Following the earthquake, people in the eastern cities of Golestan province, who were near the main epicenter, took to the streets in horror and spent the night outside their homes.

The Governor of Ramyan "Hamidreza Choobdari" said that the earthquake caused about 10 to 100% damage to about 50 residential units in rural areas, especially in the five villages of Ghorchai, Viro, Alhadi, Kashkak and Paqale'e.

Choobdari went on to say: "According to the latest statistics, 34 people from Ramyan were injured following the earthquake, 14 of whom were treated on an outpatient basis by rescue workers and eight others were taken to medical centers."

He said that most of the injuries occurred due to the fear and anxiety caused by the earthquake.

The governor of Ramyan said: "Assessment teams to monitor the latest situation of the earthquake and 16 Red Crescent relief groups are also stationed to provide services to the people affected by the earthquake and that the relief and assessment operations are still underway."

In this regard, the Governor of Azadshahr Rasoul Hosseini also said: "The earthquake caused landslides at the 16 km of the Azadshahr-Shahroud road in the area of ​​the Yurt winter mine. The road vehicles managed to clear and reopen the road, though."

Hosseini added: "Also, the electricity of three villages in Azadshahr was cut off due to the electricity cable connections. This problem was also removed following the efforts made by the agents."

He said: "One of the citizens suffered a head fracture due to fear, and he was immediately sent to the hospital and was released after treatment."

The governors of Gonbad Kavous and Minoodasht, as neighboring cities of the epicenter, also said that the earthquake was felt in these cities, but there were no casualties.

National Seismological Center of the Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran, registered the main epicenter of this earthquake at a depth of 9 km above the ground and at latitude and longitude of 55.10 and 37.02 degrees, respectively, as well as at distances of 3,9 and 10 km from Ramyan, Azadshahr And Khanbebin.
