Urmia (IP) - Three Iranian knowledge-based companies have made significant progress in the production of a coronavirus vaccine, said Iran’s Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari. 

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at a news conference in Urmia, the capital of West Azarbaijan province, northwestern Iran, on Saturday night, Sattari said six knowledge-based companies were working on a coronavirus vaccine, and that three knowledge-based companies had made significant achievements in this regard.

Since the second month of the outbreak in Iran, the vice president for science and technology said, all the equipment, supplies, and drugs needed to treat it have been produced domestically.

Sattari said medical equipment, coronavirus test kits, CT scans, digital thermometers, masks, and all medications needed to treat the disease are produced domestically.

Referring to the process of return of Iranian elites to the country the VP said last month the rate of return of elites to Iran increased almost twice compared to the same period last year.

The official stated that 500 Iranian elites are expected to return home from the top 200 universities in the world this year.

Sattari said the elites will be employed after returning to Iran, adding most of the elites are working in knowledge-based companies and some are recruited as faculty members of universities.

During a one-day trip to West Azarbaijan province on Saturday, Sorena Sattari visited the Science and Technology Park, Cellular Medicine Research Institute, and the Center for Innovation and University Growth at Urmia University.
