Tehran (IP) - Special Aide to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament in International Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a meeting with Rodrigo De Azeredo Santos, the Brazilian Ambassador to Tehran, stressed the importance of strengthening relations of the two countries on Wednesday.

Iran Press/Iran news: At the beginning of the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian, referring to the historical and friendly relations between Iran and Brazil, stated: "Relations between the two countries have a long and positive history, and can be strengthened at various levels."

Referring to the Iran-Brazil Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Iranian parliament, he called the role of parliamentary friendship and diplomacy groups in facilitating relations between the two countries important and emphasized: "This group and specialized commissions in the parliament welcome cooperation, delegations and consultation with their counterparts in the Brazilian parliament."

The Director-General of International Affairs of the Parliament stressed the importance of Brazil's independent and neutral policy to pay special attention to the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Brazilian ambassador also stated: "The development of relations with Iran is very important for Brazil and we welcome the expansion of relations and cooperation with Iran. The commonalities of Brazil and the Islamic Republic of Iran have created a good platform in various fields, especially in parliaments, to promote relations between the two countries and can be used in the interests of the two nations."

During the meeting, he discussed and exchanged views on developments in the region, especially the issue of Palestine, with Amir-Abdollahian.

Earlier, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Brazil, Hossein Qaribi, had met with Rodrigo Maia, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil.
