The US Secretary of State met with China’s leader, in Beijing on Friday, as the two countries worked to hold together a fractious relationship despite various disputes over issues such as the economy, security, and geopolitical frictions in East Asia, West Asia, and Ukraine.

Iran PressAsia: China and the US have expressed their hope for advancements on a few smaller, practical fronts, such as enhancing military-to-military contacts and facilitating travel between the two nations. However, they continue to disagree on key strategic matters such as trade regulations and territorial disputes in the South China Sea and Taiwan.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday told top US diplomat Antony Blinken that the world's two biggest economies should be "partners, not rivals", but that there were a "number of issues" to be resolved in their relations.

Meeting Blinken in Beijing's Great Hall of the People, Xi said the two countries had "made some positive progress" since he met with US President Joe Biden last year, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

"There are still several issues that need to be resolved, and there is still room for further efforts," Xi said.

Earlier, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Beijing on Friday.

The Biden administration is extremely concerned about China's backing of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine, as well as how cheap Chinese goods could jeopardize American jobs. Furthermore, China has charged that the US is attempting to encircle its interests in the Pacific. 219
