The United Nations Security Council

New York (IP) - Iran's Mission to the United Nations described the US proposed resolution to extend Iran's arms embargo as part of its domestic policy, calling on members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to stand firm against US illegal and malicious action.

Iran Press/America: The Iranian Mission to the United Nations issued a statement on Thursday, reiterating that the draft US resolution, which was presented in obvious violation of UNSC Resolution 2231, is aimed at addressing US domestic policy and has nothing to do with maintaining international peace and security.

"The US proposed draft resolution targets the integrity, authority, and credibility of the Security Council and the United Nations, and multilateralism, the rule of law and diplomacy," the statement said.

The statement released by Iran's Mission to the United Nations highlighted: "To satisfy its deep addiction to impose sanctions and to justify its irresponsible behavior in the Security Council, the United States baselessly accuses Iran of fomenting instability in the region, while destructive behavior, divisive policies, and an insatiable appetite for exporting deadly weapons to West Asia (the Middle East) are the main sources of instability, insecurity and human suffering in the region."

Continuing its hostile actions against Iran, the US government on Wednesday put on the UNSC agenda its proposed resolution to extend Iran's arms embargo, which expires on October 18 under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and due to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The timing of the vote on the resolution is to be announced, and it is predicted that the United States will fail to advance this anti-Iranian action in the Security Council.
