The Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon on Sunday called the harassment by US fighter jets on an Iranian airliner a clear example of Washington's terrorist and criminal activity in the region.

Iran PressEurope: Two US fighter jets harassed Flight 1152 of Mahan Airlines in the Syrian skies, which was en route from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport to Beirut on Thursday.

The pilot reacted to prevent collision with fighters which led to the injuries of some passengers.

Having met with the injured passengers at the 'Rasool Azam' (PBUH) Hospital in Beirut, Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Jalal Firuznia said: "The harassment of American fighters on the Iranian passenger plane is not justifiable at all and that the US is responsible for all the consequences of this terrorist and cowardly act."

Stressing that the reason for all the problems and terrorist acts is the illegitimate presence of the Americans in the West Asian region, he added that expelling the Americans from the region is the solution to eliminating insecurity and threats in West Asia.

The Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon also highlighted that Iran would take all necessary legal actions to condemn the harassment of US fighter jets, and follow the case up in the United Nations, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and related courts, especially those dealing with passengers, wounded and injured.

In response to harassing an Iranian passenger plane, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran has formally submitted a serious protest with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council and called for an immediate investigation.
