Iran Press/ Africa: In an interview with the Iran Press at the demonstration organized by the Socialists Movement of Ghana (SMG) and The Palestine Solidarity Campaign Movement, Sheikh Idris lamented that civilians in Gaza are “absolutely innocent,” and that “Palestine will be free.”
He made the remarks after the statement made by the Ghana government that the country sympathizes with Israel.
“What I have to say on what is happening now and the injustice that is happening in Palestine for almost seventy five years is that the world must know and the United nations especially must know that even if they like it or no Palestine will be free God Willing.”
"Secondly; we are sending this message to the world that they should know that we the youth of Ghana, both the Muslims and Christians and all the citizens of Ghana, are innocent of what our government said, we are not in support of the injustice that our government did, for him to support Israel on this injustice meted out on the innocent people of Palestine."
"We the citizens are not in support and the government cannot speak for us in this matter, so we are saying they the world have to raise up and support Palestinians for justice and justice must be done.”
In an interview with the Iran Press, the leader of The Coalition of Muslim Organizations in Ghana (COMOG) Hajj Abdel Manan Abdel Rahman, showed his disappointment with the US for supporting the Zionist regime after the US pledged unwavering support for Israel as its military pummels Gaza with bombardment.
“We are here to express our solidarity with the Palestinians and to solidarize with the fair-minded people of this world. Indeed, we need peace in this world and to show our disappointment in the attitude of America and its allies supporting the Zionist regime, and that is why we are here. It is so clear that the people defying the heated and restrictions by the police to come to this demonstration shows the commitment of Ghanaians to express their disappointment with what the government has expressed at the UN and we as good people of Ghana think that we must always be behind the oppressed people of Palestine.”
In an interview with the Iran press, Meimuna Usman, 34, a student, joined the protest, arguing that civilians in Gaza are “absolutely innocent.”
“Putting yourself in their shoe, you can imagine what these people are going through, so I am calling on all authorities, all voices who can help, who can intervene to do something about this, these children are innocent, especially women, children are the most vulnerable part of the community or society and they are being bombarded and kill, we all see the videos, imagine hospital being bombed, it’s very sad, it’s scary and this is not the world we want our children to live in, this is not the world we want our next generation to live in.”
In an interview with the Iran press another protester noted, “If you believe in international law, if you believe in human rights, then you must condemn what is happening now in Gaza by the Israeli army”.
The protest in the heart of Accra saw demonstrators take to the streets with a resounding message: Stop the Genocide! Freedom for Palestine! From the river to the sea! Free, Free Palestine!
The protest, which was peaceful and well-organized, aimed to draw attention to Ghana’s government involvement and its support to the Israelis in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Among their demands, the protesters called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the prompt release of hostages, and the release of individuals who have been wrongfully detained.
Their plea particularly emphasized the importance of protecting children caught in the conflict and emphasized Ghana’s position by standing with Palestine for its freedom.
