Iran Press/ Iran News: Sand and dust storms have significantly increased recently, resulting in irreparable environmental harm to the countries in the region.
Indiscriminate dam construction and droughts over the past two decades, particularly in southern Türkiye, are the primary cause of sand and dust storms.
Ali Mohammad Tahmasebi, the head of Iran's national working group for mitigating sand and dust storms, announced the finalization of six projects aimed at controlling sand and dust storms between Iran and Iraq, adding that there are four pilot projects in Iraq's Maysan, Wasit, Dhi Qar, and Al Muthanna governorates and two more in Iran's Ilam and Khuzestan provinces.
Tahmasebi announced the determination of the main points within the next two months, pointing out that since 2008, eight memorandums of understanding have been signed between Iran and Iraq.
Most dusty areas in the west and southwest are in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria. However, Iraq is given priority due to its dust reaching Khuzestan, Ilam, and Kermanshah provinces faster, and its dust centers cover 24 million hectares.
