Iran Press/Middle East: Eid al-Ghadir marks the day when Prophet Mohammad appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first Shia Imam, as his successor and the leader of Muslims some 14 centuries ago.
Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used the Ghadir Khumm event to enlighten people about the characteristics of a qualified leader that can be trusted with the management of society.
Eid al-Ghadir is amongst the most significant feasts of Shia Muslims.
The pilgrimage was dedicated to honoring Ali (a.s.), the revered first Shia imam. The atmosphere at the Alavi shrine was particularly unique today as Iranians, who hold deep affection for Ali, baked an impressive 1,434-meter-long cake.
The delicious treat was then joyfully distributed among the pilgrims to commemorate Ghadir Day.
