CBI governor: Iran imports rate signals US failing policies

Iran's Central Bank governor has said that Iran's import developments last year shows US failure in its policy against Iran.

Iran PressIran News: Iran's Central Bank governor Abdol Nasser Hemmati attended the open session of Iran's parliament on Tuesday, and reported on the activities of the Central Bank saying: "We do not have a currency problem; we only do not have access to foreign exchange resources."

Hemmati explained further that in 2011 Iran's imports were about $ 78 billion, which was both a threat and an opportunity; a threat because it created a shock of inflation and an opportunity because national production increased and gradually became less dependent on oil revenues.

"The latest statistics before the Corona crisis show that in the third quarter of 2018, all indicators were positive," added the CBI governor.

Hemmati explained further that $ 4 billion had been spent on medicine and services during the Corona outbreak, saying: "We had $ 42 billion in imports last year which would be indicative of US failing policy (toward Iran)."

Hemmati continued to call Iran's s currency trend as a good one which it will get better, highlighting that in case of any turmoil in currency, the economic system would collapse.
