Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden slammed US President Donald Trump Monday for using the American military against the American people after the US president vowed to order an army crackdown on sweeping civil unrest gripping the country.

Iran PressAmerica: "He tear-gassed peaceful protesters and fired rubber bullets," Biden tweeted, referring to Trump's decision to use law enforcement -- including military police -- to clear protesters from in front of the White House so he could pose for photographs at a riot-damaged church nearby, AFP reported.

"For our children, for the very soul of our country, we must defeat him," Biden said. 

Floyd's death has led to widespread outrage, protests, and unrest across the nation. The Minneapolis officer has been seen kneeling on Floyd's neck, Derek Chauvin was charged last week with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.  

In recent days security at the White House has been reinforced by the National Guard and additional personnel from the Secret Service and the U.S. Park Police.

Since the beginning of the anti-racism protests in the United States, 1700 people have been arrested in 22 cities.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in various cities Sunday night for the fifth night to protest the killing of George Floyd by police and the deaths of other blacks in US police custody to protest violence.
