Iran Press/America: The 2016 Democratic nominee and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton announced the endorsement in an online town hall with Biden on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on women. It's the latest high-profile endorsement racked up by the former vice president, following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday, as reported by Reuters.
"Just think of what a difference it would make right now if we had a president who not only listened to the science, put facts over fiction, but brought us together, showed the kind of compassion and caring that we need from our president, Clinton said.
Clinton, a onetime US secretary of state, former senator from New York and wife of past President Bill Clinton, lost the 2016 presidential race against Trump in an election that is still the source of anger and consternation among many liberals who expected to elect the first female president but also wrestled with whether they chose the right candidate.
Earlier US Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for the upcoming US presidential elections, expressing his commitment to helping him defeat Donald Trump in the general election as the two agreed to establish a series of task forces to cooperate on policy matters.
Biden now leads Trump in a number of national-level polls. The RealClearPolitics polling average showed Biden leading Trump by 6.3 points on Monday.
US President has faced backlash for parts of his coronavirus response, most recently for suggesting medical experts study the use of disinfectants to treat COVID-19.
