Tehran (IP) - Azerbaijan Republic Ambassador to Tehran Bunyad Huseynov announced that the head of Azerbaijani Muslims, Jews, and Christian representatives had urged the United States to lift sanctions on Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: He added that Azerbaijan recorded 1,800 coronavirus cases since the epidemic began, of whom 22 have died. People over 65 are not allowed to leave home and the rest are required to have permissions," Azerbaijani ambassador stated.

Bunyad Huseynov referred to the cruel US sanctions, saying: "The head of Azerbaijani Muslims, Jews, and Christian representatives have sent a letter to the United States' President Donald Trump, urging him to lift sanctions on Iran."

He stated that the Republic of Azerbaijan has continued its economic ties with neighboring countries like Iran and Russia via transition amid coronavirus concerns, saying: "Lorries and their drivers are checked and escorted by the police from Iran border to Russia even Azerbaijan." 

He also emphasized that the Azeri government has made efforts to contain coronavirus with banning flights and closure of educational departments. 

Azerbaijani ambassador described the action of Iran's medical section as 'remarkable' and 'outstanding' to fight against the deadly coronavirus, adding: "All governments are obliged to extend their cooperation. Azerbaijan allocated $5 million of humanitarian aid to Iran on March 14th to combat the coronavirus outbreak." 

Pointing to the historical, cultural, and literature commonalities between the two countries, Bunyad Huseynov said: "Virtual libraries can provide services to meet people's needs during the COVID-19 shutdown." 

The National Library of Iran was established in 1937. The library has been merged with the Islamic Revolution Cultural Documentation Organization (IRCDO) to form the National Library and Archives of Iran.
