Tehran (IP) - The spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said that the country would be self-sufficient in the maintenance and refueling work of the Bushehr nuclear power plant (BNPP) within two years.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The majority of the maintenance and fuel replacement of the Bushehr nuclear power plant are carried out by Iranian experts, and the country will be self-sufficient in such skills within two years," Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Thursday.

The AEOI spokesman pointed to the new fuel cargo which has recently been delivered to Bushehr nuclear power plant by Rosatom Nuclear energy company, saying: "These cargoes contain 38 tons of fuel with about 4.5 percent, which is equivalent to 12 million barrels of  crude oil."

Behrouz Kamalvandi added that the new imported fuel cargo arrived in Bushehr during two trips would provide the plant's fuel for the production of 1000 MW/h of electricity for an entire year.

According to Kamalvandi, by the operation of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Islamic Republic of Iran has saved the consumption of 67 million barrels of crude oil and the release of 7 million tonnes of pollutants or greenhouse gases to the environment annually.
