Iran\'s representative to the IAEA Kazem Gharib Abadi

Iran's representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Kazem Gharib Abadi said the Islamic Republic is a major partner of the UN nuclear watchdog.

Iran PressIran news: As a developing country, with notable nuclear activities and programs, Iran has always paid attention to the IAEA and its remarkable role, he said Monday at the special meeting to confirm the assignment of IAEA's new director general in Vienna.

He said constructive professional relations between Iran and the IAEA are of profound importance adding that the process has to move ahead under an independent, professional and impartial procedure.

Iran believes that peaceful use of nuclear energy shall not be impeded by illegal and unilateral coercive action, Gharib Abadi said.

Tehran announced that it suspends part of its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement in 2019, a year after the US unilateral withdrawal from the deal and unfolding inefficiency of European solutions proposed to offset the economic consequences of US withdrawal from JCPOA.

The Iranian envoy said monitoring and verification in the framework of UN Security Council resolution 2231 are one of IAEA's main missions as the agency has carried out 688 inspections in Iran in 2019.
