At least 17 people have been killed in a mass shooting in Nova Scotia it is said that such a mass shooting is the deadliest one in Canada's history.

Iran PressAmerica: The suspected gunman was dressed as a police officer and the shootings took place over 12 hours in the rural town of Portapique.

According to Reuters, a lone gunman killed at least 16 people, including a police officer, and evaded authorities for hours while dressed as a Royal Canadian Mountie in rural Nova Scotia, East Canada.

Canadian Police first announced that they had arrested the gunman Gabriel Wortman at a service station in Enfield, outside Halifax, but later said he had died. It was not clear how, and they did not explain further.

Several bodies were found inside and outside one home in the small, rural town of Portapique, about 100km north of Halifax and bodies were found at other locations.

By local news outlets, it has been described as the worst act of mass murder in Canada’s history. Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada, which has tighter gun control laws than the United States.
