Indian gov. asked to guarantee human rights, citizenship of Muslims

Tehran (IP) - The High Council for Human Rights of the Iranian judiciary has condemned the brutal anti-Muslim offensive in India and called on the Indian government to guarantee the human rights and citizenship of Indian Muslims.

Iran PressAsia: The High Council for Human Rights stated in a statement that the Indian government should punish the perpetuates against Muslims, noting that the recent developments in India have undermined human dignity and practically exposed the Muslims to the brutal aggression of extremists.

Recalling the rich culture of the Indian nation, the High Council for Human Rights of the Iranian Judiciary reiterated: "Section III of the Indian Constitution expressly guarantees in Articles 14 and 15, the equality of all with the law and the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of religion, race, class or place of birth and the State of India has always emphasized the civil and political equality of its citizens."

"The brutal offensive against Muslims is influenced by the perverse legacy of British colonialism in India to divide tribes and religions," the statement added.

Recent violence erupted in the Indian capital, leading to a three-day-long rampage, with Hindu mobs attacking Muslim homes, shops and mosques and resulted in killing and injuring hundreds of Muslims. 207
