Iran ambassador to Pakistan

Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Seyyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, has called for expansion of commercial and economic ties between Iran and Pakistan, arguing that the private sector plays a key role in strengthening of Tehran-Islamabad business and economic ties.

Iran PressAsia: Speaking in Lahore, Pakistan at a gathering of top Pakistani and Iranian businessmen and captains of industry, Seyyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini called for more attention to be paid to the tourism sector, saying the Iranian embassy and consulate in Pakistan are ready to assist and provide financial assistance to businessmen and economic activists of both countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hosseini talked about the energy sector and in particular Iran's natural gas pipeline to Pakistan and Iran's export of electricity to Pakistan, emphasizing Tehran's readiness to supply the energy needs of Islamabad.

The head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce Masoud Khansari who was also present at the gathering talked about Iran's new policy of expanding and strengthening of cooperation with neighbouring countries and said that the Pakistani market is of significance and importance.

Khansari also talked about the readiness of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce to boost and upgrade relations with Lahore Chamber of Commerce.

For his part, the head of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce, Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, welcomed Iranian banks who want to set up branches in Pakistan and talked about the steps which the Pakistani government has taken to facilitate banking, finance and trade and remove obstacles to commercial ties between Tehran and Islamabad.
