Ilham Aliyev congratulates Islamic Revolution anniv.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in a message congratulated his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the 41st victory anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran PressAsia: In the message, the Azerbaijani President said: "I sincerely congratulate you and the Iranian people on the national celebration and victory of the Islamic Revolution." 

"The current level of ties between Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic which are based on historical, cultural and religious roots will be improved on the basis of good neighborliness. I am confident that mutual cooperation will further strengthen in the context of bilateral relations and in international institutes," the Azerbaijani president wrote in his congratulatory letter.

Aliyev also wished Iran's friendly people and government peace, stability, and welfare.

The Iranian Revolution also known as the Islamic Revolution was a series of events that involved the overthrow of the last monarch of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and the replacement of his government with an Islamic republic under the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

By toppling the US-backed Pahlavi regime 41 years ago, the Iranian nation ended 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
