Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking in the Iranian parliament (the Majlis) to a gathering of reporters and journalists, on the sidelines of a parliamentary commission meeting, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said the idea of the trigger mechanism, which is part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), seems to have been shelved for the time being.
Araghchi referred to Iran's fifth step in pulling back further from its JCPOA commitments and said there is still a month to go until we reach the fifth incremental step, and now there are a number of competing ideas as to how we should proceed with the next step.
Araghchi emphasized that in the Vienna meeting last Friday, Iran plainly stated that if JCPOA benefits do not reach Iran, we will continue to reduce and scale back our commitment towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action, until the situation is remedied.
Some Western media have suggested that last Friday's meeting in Vienna was held in a different atmosphere to previous ones.
Commenting on his discussions with MPs in parliament (Majlis), Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said: "In the parliamentary commission meeting today (Tuesday) we discussed America's unilateral sanctions, particularly those affecting infrastructure development and construction in Iran. Several reports were presented which deeply analysed the sanctions. We also discussed Iran's move towards self-sufficiency, and we are very glad that the Islamic Republic is standing firmly and staunchly resisting US sanctions and America's maximum pressure policy."
