Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman has warned that if the European signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) opt for the "Grim Trigger" strategy, then there would be a vast range of options open to Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, in a news conference on Sunday referred to earlier remarks by Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, who had talked about the possibility of Europeans opting for the "Grim Trigger" strategy, stressing that the other side does not have any right to use the grim trigger strategy because of their persistent foot-dragging and inaction.

Mousavi went on to explain that Iran's reduction of its commitment under JCPOA is based on Iran's legal rights recognized by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) itself.

The spokesman also emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has given plenty of time for diplomacy to work, waiting about a year for other signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal to fulfil their commitments, but this did not happen.

Mousavi added: "We had to take the fourth step to reduce our commitments in JCPOA which is in full accordance with the articles 5 and 6 of the agreement."

Iran has repeatedly said it is reducing its commitments to make a balance between its rights and obligations under the JCPOA.

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi also announced the visit of the Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Kazakhstan, saying the "Hormuz Peace Endeavor" presented by President Rouhani at the UN General Assembly was sent in full detail to relevant countries, including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday Mousavi said: "Fourth step of scaling back our nuclear commitments, Zarif's participation at the ECO Summit in Turkey and earlier in Baku, Araghchi's participation at the Disarmament Conference in Moscow was the most important development last week."

Mousavi expressed hope that the Islamic Republic's goodwill step would be welcomed by these countries and that we would witness a safe region.
