Afifabad Garden in Shiraz is a fascinating historic site and tourist attraction situated in Shiraz city centre, a city which is the provincial capital of Fars province in southern Iran.

Iran Press /Iran News: Along with its beautiful, orderly, and wonderful entrance, the garden's 500-year-history dates back to the Safavid Dynasty. The Afifabad garden boasts a beautiful big pool, a beautiful and historic building, tall mature trees, and a colorful array of flowers. The garden has retained its charm and simplicity over the centuries and is a perfect example of a traditional Iranian garden.

The garden involves a two-story complex with halls, built 118 years ago in 1901; on the ground floor and basement, a variety of old weaponry has been put on public display.

In addition to being one of the oldest gardens in Shiraz, it became one of the largest weapons museums in the Middle East in 1990!

The upper floors of the building contain elegant rooms with beautiful paintings depicting epic Iranian folklore stories.

These luxurious rooms are decorated with old sofas as well as stunning tables and chairs which have survived the test of time; sofas that have retained their beauty and charm from the Qajar and Pahlavi eras.

On the west side of the garden is a traditional Iranian bath -- known as Khazine -- with mural paintings depicting Iranian legends and myths.

The traditional café is located on the right side of the exit door with a lush courtyard and orange trees embellishing it. The cafe has six partitioned areas -- known as 'Hojras' or cells -- each adorned with a painting of ancient Iranian myths and legends. On the left side of the exit door, there is a Shiraz souvenir shop selling traditional sweets such as "Masghati" and cookies, and handmade inlaid works of art, together with other cultural and artistic souvenirs.
