Former US ambassador to Iraq, Douglas Silliman

Douglas Silliman, the former US ambassador to Iraq, has warned that Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) can retaliate against US interests in Iraq because of the recent Israeli drone strike on ammunitions warehouse.

Iran Press/America: Silliman, who left his post as ambassador to Iraq in February of this year said: "The concern I have is that it is possible someone will react to the Israeli attack, and there might  be a price to pay, that there might be a retaliation for this."

Douglas Silliman, the former US ambassador to Iraq, added: "If PMF leaders decide that they have to punish the US for something they believe Israel has done, that puts a target on the American diplomatic presence in Iraq, or on American and coalition forces on Iraqi bases around the country."

Meanwhile, the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) known as Hashd ash-Sha?abi, have accused the US and the Israeli regime of involvement in an alleged drone strike on ammunitions warehouse near Baghdad last week, the latest in a series of four explosions at bases belonging to Popular Mobilisation Forces.

The Iraqi government has also launched an inquiry into the blast at the facility of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF).

A senior official of the PMF ( also known as Hashd ash-Sha?abi) said it had intelligence that showed the US had brought in four Israeli drones earlier this year to work as part of the US fleet in Iraq and target Hashd ash-Sha?abi positions in the country.

The second highest ranking official in PMF, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis said the PMF (Hashd ash-Sha?abi) would from now on use “all means at its disposal to deter and prevent such attacks on our positions”. He also said US and Israeli involvement in the four attacks on PMF bases is quite clear and if these attacks are repeated there will certainly be a response, a price to pay.

It is worth noting that Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) known as Hashd ash-Sha?abi, is one of the principal members of the Islamic resistance front, and plays a key role in confronting US and Zionist policies and actions in the Middle East.

The PMF was set up in 2014 following a religious edict (or Fatwa) from Iraq's most senior religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali al-Sistani, after Daesh terrorists captured large swathes of northern and western Iraq.
