Cairo (IP) - Egyptian state TV reported heavy gunfire between security forces and with members of a “terrorist group” in the al-Amiyirah district of Egypt's capital, Cairo.

Iran Press/Africa: The exchange of gunfire on Tuesday took place in the al-Amiyirah district.

The Egyptian Interior Ministry's counter-terrorism forces have killed the attackers after exchanging heavy fire with gunmen. Two Egyptian security forces officers were also killed in the clashes.

Egypt's Interior Ministry has not issued a statement yet.

"Initial investigations show that the suspects were planning to carry out terrorist acts," a security source was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency. 

The source added that explosives and weapons were found with the suspects.
