Yazd (IP) - The rich tapestry of Iranian handicrafts takes center stage at the prestigious 15th National Handicrafts Exhibition hosted at the Yazd International Exhibitions.

Over 200 booths proudly display Iran's native and traditional arts, offering a glimpse into a heritage that spans centuries. In an exclusive interview with Iran Press, a skilled woman weaver shares insights into the ancient craft of Karbafi or pit work, tracing its roots back to the Safavid era over 600 years ago.

Iranian handicrafts are impressive and admirable in the world; whether it is shown in the carpet in pottery or any of the arts of enameling Toreutics is magnificent and unique. The native and traditional arts of Iran occupy more than 200 booths in the 15th Yazd National Handicrafts Exhibition.

In an interview with an Iran Press reporter in Yazd, a woman weaving artist said: "Our handcraft is 600 years old and is related to the Safavid period, which is called Karbafi or pit work. One of the artists told an Iran Press: "Toreutics is the dance of pen and line of love."

The Yazdi artist added: "Foreign tourists welcome Iranian handicrafts and love them. A Ziloo artist, who weaves cotton rugs, stated in an interview with Iran Press: "Ziloo is known as the world's first natural carpet, dating back seven thousand years, because it is produced with 100% natural cotton and does not cause any allergies."He stated that in 2016, Ziloo Meybod, a city in the Yazd province, was registered as a world heritage.

Specialists from World Crafts Council visited Meybod in 2018 to evaluate the designation of the city as the ‘World Ziloo City’.

Ziloo is one of the oldest types of handmade floor coverings in Iran and has been woven in Meybod (55km north of Yazd) for many years. It has proven to be one of the most suitable and most enduring floor coverings, especially in desert areas.

Enamel artists from Yazd reveal a surprising trend as Chinese tourists show keen interest in acquiring enamel artworks. Despite China's industrial prowess, their fascination with traditional Iranian enameling underscores a universal appreciation for fine craftsmanship. The artists said that tourists, particularly those from China, are very interested in purchasing enamel artworks. Despite China being a strong producer of industrial items, they still displays a significant interest in the art of enameling. The National Handicraft Exhibition of Iran will be held for six days, from May 13 to 18, 2024, at the permanent site of the Yazd International Exhibition.
