Iran Press/commentary: Joe Biden criticized the Trump administration's policy towards Iran and outlined its policies regarding Iran if he would be elected in the upcoming election.
Biden stated that Donald Trump made a mistake by withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and acted against the national interests of the United States, which isolated the United States so that in the last two attempts by Washington against Iran to extend the arms embargo and reinstate international sanctions, the closest America's allies in Europe also refused to keep up with it and take a stand against Iran.
Biden's acknowledgment of the failure of Trump's policy towards Iran shows that even senior US politicians have realized that despite repeated claims by Trump administration officials, especially Mike Pompeo, that the maximum pressure campaign has made things worse for Iran, this approach has failed.
In practice, Iran has withstood these pressures within the framework of its maximum resistance strategy and has also thwarted Washington's efforts to maintain international sanctions against Iran.
According to Alex Vatankhah, Director of Iran Program at the West Asia Institute in Washington: "The United States has been left alone in its approach to Iran."
Another point that Biden made was criticizing the terrorist act of the Trump administration regarding the assassination of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, the late commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
He stated that the decision prompted Iran to attack a US base in an unprecedented move, an attack in which more than 100 US troops were severely wounded.
Biden's confession also shows that despite the false claims of Trump and Pompeo that criminal and illegal action severely weakened Iran in supporting Resistance, the IRGC air force demonstrated that by carrying out a precision missile strike on the Ain al-Assad base, not only is it not intimidated by Washington's threats, but Iran is the only country that dares to attack a US military base. This issue shattered the fragile dignity of the US military in the region.
According to Russian political expert Rajab Safarov, regarding the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani: "Trump committed this crime to gain political advantage and to increase his chances of winning the US presidential election, but he suffered a heavy defeat and lost points due to Iran's attacks."
The other part of Biden's note is his government's policy on Iran if he wins the November 2020 election.
Biden stressed that if he wins the presidency and the White House, he will change Washington's policy toward Iran, and, in the first step, he will commit to trying to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
He added that in the second step, his government would pave a credible path for a diplomatic approach towards Iran and that if Iran returns to its strict adherence to its commitments, Washington will return to the agreement as a starting point for new negotiations.
Reiterating some claims about Iran's regional policies, Biden said the third step would be to counter these activities as well as ensuring the security of the Zionist regime.
It is important to note that over the past 40 years, all US presidents, both Republicans, and Democrats, have taken an aggressive, pressure-based approach towards Iran, particularly sanctions, and some such as the Reagan administration, during the end of the imposed war Iraq against Iran, they entered into an armed confrontation with Iran.
The Obama administration, despite participating in the JCPOA in the form of the P5 + 1, has, on many occasions, imposed or continued sanctions against Tehran and refused to fulfill its commitments.
Biden, Obama's aide, now claims that he will return to the nuclear deal if he enters the White House as the new president. However, he made it clear that under his administration, Washington, along with its allies, would work to tighten and extend JCPOA's restrictions.
At the same time, the US would address other issues of concern, including its claims about prisoners and human rights issues.
In fact, Biden not only wants to expand the content and temporal restrictions on Iran's nuclear activities, but, instead, like Obama, he intends to impose other issues on Tehran, such as missile capability, regional policies, and human rights, in the form of other JCPOAs.
Iran, on the other hand, has repeatedly stated that it will only adhere to the JCPOA and will in no way succumb to Washington's demands on the missile, regional, human rights, and the like.
