Iran's foreign ministry spokesman has said the Islamic Republic never seeks instability in the region.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi made the remark in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

Mousavi said Iran along with some other countries seeks peace and stability in the region.

He went on to laud a ruling by a Gibraltar court which rejected a US demand for extension of the seizure of an Iranian oil tanker, emphasising that the US request was illegal and could not be justified on legal grounds.

Mousavi added: "Rejection of US request by Gibraltar about the tanker shows that US unilateral sanctions against Iran are no longer effective."

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman also urged the international community to give a coordinated and unified response to the US unilateral and illegal sanctions against Iran.

"The UK should wait for the Iranian judiciary's decision to release the British-flag oil tanker," the foreign ministry spokesman concluded by saying.  201/211/205
