US congressman warns of Saudi nuclear program

In a letter to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman called on the White House to answer questions regarding Saudi Arabia's nuclear program.

Iran Press/America: In the letter, Sherman expressed concern about Saudi Arabia's nuclear activities and called for a ban on activities and actions that could increase Saudi Arabia's ability to acquire nuclear weapons.

Trump administration has come out in support of the Saudi regime, contrary to US law, which sets specific rules for nuclear cooperation with other countries, negotiations and cooperation with Saudi Arabia on the establishment of nuclear facilities have recently begun.

The Trump administration's move has met with widespread opposition.

Iran's permanent representative to international organizations based in Vienna recently expressed concern about Saudi Arabia's secret nuclear program and its negative effects on the region.

"Saudi Arabia is developing and implementing a highly non-transparent nuclear program," Kazem Gharibabadi said.

He stressed that the international community must make it clear to Saudi Arabia that it will not tolerate any deviation from a peaceful nuclear program or the transfer of radioactive material to terrorist groups.

Iran's envoy to International Atomic Energy Agency also referred to US support of Saudi Arabia and said: "The irresponsible behavior and non-transparent nuclear program of Saudi Arabia is supported by the administration of US President Donald Trump under a commercial and profit-oriented approach."
