Several people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after an airplane carrying 126 passengers and crew members from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, caught fire Tuesday afternoon at Miami International Airport, according to authorities.

Iran PressAmerica: Three people who were in the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 airplane were injured following the fire, which was reported at 5:39 p.m., said Chief Fire Officer John Arias of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The Red Air flight 203 landed at 5:30 p.m. when its landing gear collapsed, which caused the fire, said Greg Chin, communications director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

Footage from the scene showed the plane on its belly being doused with foam by firetrucks. Photos and videos posted on social media showed passengers nearby walking on the runway.

Some flights were delayed due to the fire, MIA officials said. Travelers were encouraged to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.

No other information was immediately known.

A team of investigators from the US National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
