Iran's 40th Fajr Film Festival:

Tehran (IP) - 'Girls Group,' the second feature film directed by Monireh Gheidi, was produced in 2021; it is one of the 22 films nominated for the 40th Fajr Film Festival.

Iran PressIran News: 'Girls Group' narrates the story of women during the Iraqi 8-year imposed war on Iran as well as their patience and resistance. 

The film depicts the southern parts of Iran two years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, in a situation where the country is still in turmoil; the Iraqi Baathist army led by Saddam Hussein has attacked the southern cities with full military equipment and is advancing to occupy Iran; the people are struggling to resist, but due to the lack of weapons and ammunition the fall of the city is imminent. 

'Girls Group' event made out of study

The director of 'Girls Group' says the work was developed out of her study about the experience she had of the Iraqi 8-year of imposed war on Iran.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Monireh Gheidi said that the movie 'Girls Group' was teamwork of more than a hundred people, although she considered the film a little bitter. 

Niki Karimi, a star of the film, said the project was completed after 6 months of breath-taking efforts wholeheartedly.

'Girls Group' depicts the resistance and sacrifices of the Iranian women in the early turbulent days of the imposed war on Iran in 1980.

The film is a narrative of the battle of Khorramshahr in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran which has been developed through the recreation of live and documented images, with a feminine point of view.   

Niki Karimi, Hoda Zeinolabedin, Pantehaa Panahi, Fereshteh Hosseini, Hossein Soleimani, and Yasin Masoudi play roles in 'Girls Group' produced by Mohammad Reza Mansouri.
