The 67th Belgrade International Book Fair officially opened on Sunday, October 20, 2024, featuring the Islamic Republic of Iran among its participants.

Iran Press/Europe: This year’s fair, themed "Free Speech," occupies a space of 30,000 square meters and includes 418 domestic and international publishers. Cuba is the special guest of this edition.

The opening ceremony was attended by Serbian Minister of Culture Srdjan Selakovic, Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso Grau, and various ambassadors and cultural representatives, including Rashid Hassanpour, the Iranian Ambassador to Serbia, and Amir Pourpezeshk, Iran's cultural attaché in Serbia, along with numerous publishing professionals.

Cuban poet, writer, and anthropologist Miguel Barnet spoke at the event, expressing his pride in representing Cuba. He noted that this fair is one of the oldest and most significant literary events in Europe. Barnet highlighted the global recognition of Serbian culture, stating that Serbian literature has served as a reference for Latin American writers from the Middle Ages to the present, citing the Miroslav Gospel and the lyrical and epic songs performed alongside traditional music.

During the closing of the ceremony, both Minister Selakovic and Minister Grau visited the Iranian booth, where they were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Hassanpour and cultural attaché Pourpezeshk.

Countries participating in the Belgrade Book Fair include Cuba, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Congo, Morocco, Germany, Romania, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, and Iran. In addition to the exhibition area, visitors can enjoy over 500 events held during the fair.

The Iranian cultural attaché in Serbia, with support from the House of Book and Literature of Iran, has set up a 24-square-meter booth to showcase Iranian publications and introduce the latest works by Iranian publishers in Persian, English, and Serbian.

Four newly published works from this cultural attaché, supported by the Center for Translation and Publication of the Organization for Islamic Culture and Communication, include books on Imam Reza (AS), the Divan of Hafiz, a special magazine for successful Iranian women, and contemporary Iranian literature published by the Serbian Literary Association. These works will be introduced and unveiled at a special session.

The 67th Belgrade International Book Fair will run until Sunday, November 4, 2024, at the city’s exhibition center.
