Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan on Wednesday morning for a one-day official visit.

Iran Press/Iran news: Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, accompanied by a number of high-ranking security, military and political officials, is in Kabul at the invitation of National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib.

According to Iran Press, during the visit, Shamkhani will meet with his Afghan counterpart, as well as other senior Afghan officials, including President Ashraf Ghani, and Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah.

The visit is aimed at discussing ways of promoting political, economic and security cooperation between the two neighbors, to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime, and to boost interaction between Tehran and Kabul on border security and regional issues.

Speaking at international conference on Afghanistan sponsored by the United Nations in Geneva on 28 November, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif  said Tehran is ready to help the Afghan nation and government in their quest for peace.

He also said, there is national, regional and global consensus that there is no military solution in Afghanistan, and the time has come for a national reconciliation and inclusive political solution in Afghanistan, owned and led by the Afghan government and people. 101/211
