Iran has marked Earth Hour by turning off the lights at landmark buildings across the country, as part of a global movement to raise awareness about the reduction of energy consumption and also climate change.

Iran Press/Iran news: Landmark buildings across Iran, including Tehran’s iconic Milad and Azadi towers, turned off their lights from 1600 GMT to 1700 GMT on Saturday.

Every year, the event starts at Sydney and moves westward to other parts of the world at the end of March from 8:30 to 9:30 pm local time, according to Iran Press.

Iran joined the global initiative in 2011 and has been expanding its participation in the global event.

Tehran's Milad Tower is the tallest telecommunication and recreation tower in Iran with a height of 435 meters, and Azadi (freedom) tower is one of the most well-known symbols of the Islamic Revolution's victory 40 years ago. 101/211/205
