Iran's ambassador to UN condemned the world body's Security Council silence toward US and its allies killing civilian especially women and children.

Iran Press/America: Speaking at UN open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said, "On 9 August 2018, an attack by Saudi Arabia killed 52 civilians, among them 40 children, to which the Council reacted with complete silence."

Iran's ambassador to UN noted, "According to the Secretary-General’s report, not only have civilian casualties increased in Afghanistan in 2018, but those resulting from the use of air-launched weapons rose by 61 per cent," Iran Press reported.

"The worst aspect of this issue is that most victims are women and children," he added.

“What has been this Council’s reaction to such a violation by United States and NATO forces?  Nothing,” Iran's ambassador to UN said.

"When a United Nations assessment in Syria found that nearly 70 percent of buildings in Raqqa were destroyed, the Council did not hold the United States or its partners to account," Majid Takht-Ravanchi asked.

"In Gaza, Israel killed nearly 280 civilians in 2018, including 56 children, yet the Council did not hold Israel responsible," he said.

"The conclusion is that respect for international humanitarian law erodes because criminals are not held to account. Rather, they are emboldened to commit more brutalities," Iran's ambassador to UN noted.  101/205
