Israeli media has reported that the United States is providing Israel with Area Defense (THAAD) systems for the first time, aimed at intercepting ballistic missiles.

Iran Press/ West Asia: A U.S. official informed The Times of Israel that President Joe Biden’s administration is considering transferring Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems to Israel, although a final decision has yet to be made.

Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. would deploy the anti-ballistic missile system in Israel, potentially sending American troops to operate it as part of preparations for an anticipated Israeli response to Iran's recent missile attacks.

Some experts suggest that the THAAD system has been in Israel since 1997 and view the recent announcements as part of a psychological warfare strategy. They argue that during Iran's second missile attack on the occupied territories, the system was deployed but lacked sufficient capability to provide a comprehensive security umbrella.

These analysts also point out that the THAAD system was previously utilized during attacks by the Yemeni army on the UAE three years ago, but it failed to deliver effective results.

The integrated defense system employed by Israel relies heavily on such frameworks, and recent attacks targeting its defense headquarters—which destroyed critical radar components—have posed significant setbacks for both Israeli and U.S. defense strategies.

As tensions escalate in the region, the deployment of advanced missile defense systems like THAAD underscores the ongoing military collaboration between the U.S. and Israel, particularly in response to perceived threats from Iran.
