Tehran (IP) - The First Vice President of Iran said that tourism is one of the most effective economic sectors of the country, which can be the second most profitable after oil for many clear reasons.

Iran Press/Iran news: Mohammad-Reza Aref, First Vice President of Iran emphasized the interconnectedness of cultural heritage, tourism, and handicrafts, suggesting that each could warrant its ministry.

Aref highlighted that at least 20 percent of tourism-related employment has been allocated in all development plans since the third plan.

He stressed the importance of the cultural aspect of tourism, noting that foreign tourists are drawn to Iran primarily because of its rich cultural history.

He remarked that no region in Iran should be considered superior or inferior in cultural and political terms, as the country's diverse cultural heritage can attract global interest.

Aref recalled a conversation with a foreign leader who expressed a desire to visit Iranian villages to experience the local culture firsthand.

The First Vice President pointed out that while tourism significantly contributes to economic development, it should not be viewed solely through an economic lens, as this would undermine the value of Iran's cultural heritage.

He noted that foreign scholars who visited Iran often returned with a changed perspective, becoming ambassadors for the country.

Aref emphasized the need to leverage tourism and cultural heritage for public diplomacy, addressing the issue of Iranophobia.

He concluded by stating that the government must facilitate private sector involvement to achieve the 8 percent growth target outlined in the Seventh Development Plan.

Aref underscored the importance of respecting property rights and providing necessary facilities to encourage private investment in the economy.
