Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said the unity and integrity of Iraq is very important to the Supreme Leader.

Hosting a delegation of prominent figures of Iraqi Shia tribes, Velayati said the unity and common grounds between Iran and Iraq is a  valuable asset.

He expressed hope that continuation of political, religious, social and cultural exchanges between Iran and Iraq would strengthen  bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meeting Mr. Haider al-Abadi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, on October 26, 2017, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to unity among different ethnic groups, and the Iraqi government’s support of the people including their devout, brave Iraqi youth, as key to recent victories against terrorists and their allies.

Ayatollah Khamenei backed the Iraqi government's actions to defend its unified governance and territorial integrity, and called Iraq a determinant and important country in the Arab world.
